Is the CSM 1812-80 compatible with my current RO system?

Yes. The CSM 1812-80 uses a universal standard size (1812). If your current membrane housing looks like a standard cylinder inside your RO cabinet, this membrane will fit perfectly.

How do I know if my CSM membrane is original?

Each membrane carries a unique identification code.

Can this membrane reduce TDS from 2000 to safe levels?

Yes. With a 98% rejection rate, if your input water is 2000 ppm this membrane can reduce it to approximately 40–100 ppm, which is safe and sweet for drinking.

Why is my TDS high (e.g. 50–100 ppm) immediately after installation?

This is normal. New dry membranes are coated with a food-grade protective agent. It takes 24 to 48 hours of water contact for the membrane pores to fully hydrate and reach the 98% rejection rate. Please discard the first two full tanks before testing.

I replaced a 50 GPD membrane with this 80 GPD, but the water flow is very slow. Is it defective?

Not at all. Higher GPD membranes require more pressure. If your house pressure is below 40 PSI, or your booster pump is weak, the water cannot push through the membrane layers. Also ensure you have upgraded your flow restrictor to 550cc/600cc — a small restrictor will “choke” the output.

There is no water coming out of the faucet, but the drain line is running. Why?

This usually means the membrane is not fully seated. If the double O-rings are not pushed deep into the internal socket of the housing, water will bypass the membrane and go down the drain. Remove the membrane, lubricate the O-rings, and push firmly until it “locks” in.

Why does the water look “milky” or “cloudy” for the first few days?

These are microscopic air bubbles trapped in the dry membrane layers. It is 100% safe and will disappear once the system is fully purged of air (usually within 3–5 days).

Can I return the membrane if I accidentally ordered the wrong size?

We accept returns only if the vacuum-sealed bag is unopened. Once the seal is broken, the membrane is exposed to the atmosphere and potential contaminants, making it non-resalable for hygiene reasons. Please measure your housing before opening.

How long will this CSM membrane last?

With proper pre-filtration (changing sediment and carbon filters every 6 months) and the correct flow restrictor, a genuine CSM membrane typically lasts 24 to 36 months, depending on your local water hardness.

Is this a “Wet” or “Dry” membrane?

This is a dry-type membrane. It is easier to store, has a longer shelf life, and does not require preservative chemicals. It “activates” once it makes contact with water in your system.

My TDS was 0 last year, but with this new membrane it’s 20. Is the membrane weak?

Not necessarily. High TDS is often caused by a worn-out membrane housing. Over time the internal plastic seat where the O-rings rest can warp or get scratched; if that seal isn’t 100% tight, raw tap water leaks into your pure water. Check your housing for cracks or mineral buildup before blaming the new membrane.

The drain water won’t stop running even when the tank is full. Is the membrane clogged?

No. This is almost always a failure of the Auto Shut-Off (ASO) valve or the check valve. When these valves fail, the system doesn’t know the tank is full, so it keeps wasting water. The membrane is a filter, not a switch — it cannot stop water flow on its own.

I have a TDS of 500+ in my tap water. Will this membrane get me to 0?

Reverse osmosis works on a rejection percentage. A healthy CSM membrane removes 98% of contaminants, so 500 ppm input gives roughly 10 ppm output. If you want 0 TDS, add a DI (deionization) resin filter after the membrane.

Why is my RO tank taking so long to fill up?

Aside from water pressure, check your storage tank air pressure. If the tank’s internal bladder has lost its air charge (should be 7–10 PSI when empty of water), the tank won’t “take in” the water the membrane is producing. It’s a tank issue, not a membrane defect.

Can I use this membrane for borewell or hard water?

Yes, but with a caveat. If your water is extremely hard (high calcium/magnesium), the membrane will scale quickly. To protect it, ensure your antiscalant pre-filter is fresh and your flow restrictor is clean — a partially blocked restrictor can kill a membrane in days.

Does “80 GPD” mean I get 80 gallons every hour?

No. GPD stands for Gallons Per Day. An 80 GPD membrane produces roughly 12 to 13 litres per hour under ideal conditions (60 PSI and 25°C water temperature). If your water is cold or your pressure is low, the hourly flow will be less.
